B.El.Ed Course Guide: Eligibility, Fees, Admission & Career Scope

Elementary education or primary education is the first stage of formal schooling for a child. Kids between ages 5 and 13, i.e., from classes 1- 8, are taught foundational topics such as reading and writing, mathematics skills, social studies, basics of science, and social and emotional skills, which can lay a strong foundation and prepare them for the next phases in life.

B.El.Ed expands as Bachelor of Elementary Education and is a 4-year undergraduate program. The course focuses on subjects such as –

a. Child development

b. Pedagogical training for foundational subjects including mathematics, science, social studies, environmental studies and languages.

c. Cognition and learning

d. Practical training on classroom management and activities to enhance and enrich academic success.  


Eligibility

Candidates who have completed class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 50-55% are eligible to apply. There are no such restrictions in terms of background and streams, but a proficiency in English and general teaching aptitude can help.

Admission is based on the scores in entrance tests such as CUET (Common University Entrance Test, DUET (Delhi University Entrance Test), MUJEE (Mangalayatan University Joint Entrance Test), institution-specific tests or on the basis of class 12 merit.


Fees

The annual fee range is between Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 1,00,000, depending on the institution.


Career Prospects

Graduates after the course will be well-equipped to work in the education sector in both the government and private sectors. They can take up roles such as primary or elementary teacher, curriculum developer, educational content developer, academic coordinator/counsellor, tutor and mentor in schools and consultancies, teach children with special needs, or work in NGOs and social service initiatives as teachers and educational coordinators.

Graduates can pursue higher studies such as M.Ed, M.A in Education, etc., for specialised teaching techniques, a deeper knowledge, and enhanced career opportunities.

Exams such as CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test), a national-level exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), enable candidates to apply for jobs in central government schools, UT schools, and other schools.  

The average basic salary is Rs. 2.5 lakhs to Rs. 5.5 lakhs per annum, which can go up to Rs. 6 lakhs to Rs.16 lakhs per annum with experience.
