By the early 2000s, Digital marketing had emerged as a separate stream of study. With the growth of social media, search engines, and other digital channels, companies had to come up with innovative strategies to market their brand online. India’s digital advertising market is projected to grow to Rs. 69,856 crores by 2026, as against Rs. 49,251 crores in 2024.

However, it's important to distinguish digital marketing from online marketing. Digital marketing is an all-encompassing term for electronic marketing efforts, including websites, social media, email, and search engines, as well as offline methods like radio, SMS, billboards, and digital TV, while online marketing is limited to web-based or internet-based channels.

An MBA in digital marketing is a 1-year or 2-year postgraduate program after a graduate degree that focuses on understanding online consumer behaviour, online branding, and marketing using data analytics.
