President Droupadi Murmu gives away first-ever Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar
New Delhi: Hon’ble President Smt Droupadi Murmu recently conferred the first-ever Vigyan Ratna Puraskar - India’s top science award -- on noted biochemist and former director of the Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Science Govindrajan Padmanabhan. At an award ceremony, the President also conferred 13 Vigyan Shri Puraskar, 18 Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prizes and one Vigyan Team award, marking the first investiture ceremony for science awards.
The team of scientists and engineers who worked on the Chandrayaan-3 mission were honoured with the Vigyan Team award, which was received by the project director of the mission, P Veeramuthuvel. All the awardees received a medal and a citation for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields.
IIT Madras receives donation of INR 228 cr from alumni
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, recently received funding of INR 228 crore from US-based industrialist and entrepreneur Dr Krishna Chivukula. It is considered one of the largest donations IIT Madras received, which would utilise the funds for taking up various initiatives, said IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti.
"Nearly after 53 years, our alumni, Dr Krishna Chivukula, has come to give ?228 crore as an endowment to IIT-Madras. He had studied M Tech in aerospace engineering during the 1970s and has established companies engaged in the manufacture of components for aeroplanes," Kamakoti told reporters.
University of Southampton becomes the first UK University to set up campus in India

Mark E Smith, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Southampton, highlighted the importance of this initiative.
