Over 40 lakh new students have enrolled in government schools: OP CM

Lucknow: Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, recently said that efforts have been made to improve the infrastructure in 1,32,000 schools in the Basic Education Council under the Kayakalp Abhiyan. More than 40 lakh new children have been admitted to government schools in the state.

All the children are provided with bags, books, shoes, socks, and sweaters. Not only this but efforts are also being made to implement the NCERT syllabus in the Uttar Pradesh Board in a phase-wise manner, Adityanath said. The increase of 40 lakh new children in the schools of the state's Basic Education Department shows that the efforts made by the government are giving results and the objective of RTE is being fulfilled, he added.

Giving wings to 5,000 more dreams: Reliance Foundation UG Scholarships 2023-24 results announced

Mumbai: Five thousand students have been selected from a country-wide application pool for the Reliance Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships 2023-24, results for which were announced recently. The scholarship, one of India’s largest, inclusive and diverse scholarship initiatives for higher education, awards undergraduate students a grant of up to Rs. 2 lakh and an opportunity to be part of its vibrant and enabling alumni network.

Across 35 states and UTs of India, 58,000 students studying at more than 5,500 educational institutions had applied for the scholarships. The final 5000 have been selected through a systematic merit-cum-means process. In addition to their performance in the aptitude test and their Grade 12 marks, 75% of the selected students have an annual household income of less than 2.5 lakh rupees. The Reliance Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships aim to support students in any stream of study to lift themselves and their communities and contribute to India’s future socio-economic development.

IIT Madras' second offshore campus likely to come up in Sri Lanka

Chennai: The third overseas campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is expected to come up in Sri Lanka. This proposal was made in November last year during the presentation of the 2024 Budget by the Hon’ble President of Sri Lanka, Shri Ranil Wickremesinghe, who concurrently holds the position of finance minister. According to reports, the Sri Lankan government is discussing this ambitious endeavour with IIT Madras.

A source quoted by the news agency PTI stated, "A high-level delegation recently visited the Chennai campus to discuss the future roadmap. The talks are ongoing, and the campus will likely be established in Kandy." The source further mentioned, "The delegation also visited the Research Park at the campus and interacted with officials about possible areas of engagement."

HEIs to be categorised as 'accredited' or 'not accredited', grading system to go

New Delhi: Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country will no longer be given grades under the accreditation system; instead, they will be categorised either as "accredited" or "not accredited", the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) decided recently. In an executive council meeting held lately, the NAAC also decided that the accredited institutions will be further given levels between one and five to encourage them to achieve the highest level.

These reforms will be implemented in two stages -- the binary accreditation (accredited or not accredited) system in the next four months and the Maturity-Based Graded Accreditation (levels 1 to 5) by December.

Female Enrollment In STEM Courses Highest In World: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi: Female enrollment in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses has reached 43 per cent, one of the world's highest figures, Hon’ble Union Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted while presenting the interim Budget 2024.

She said, "Female enrollment in higher education has increased by twenty-eight per cent in ten years. In STEM courses, girls and women constitute forty-three per cent of enrollment - one of the highest in the world. All these measures reflect in the increasing participation of women in the workforce."
